My Favorite Things...

Sunday
May092010

7am - 9am

Q: How do your days usually begin?

EJY: What I usually do is...   start with a cup of coffee. A lot of people in the entertainment business like to "sleep in." I have a very hard time doing that. The moment my eyes open in the morning my brain starts racing and thinking about everything I'd like to do throughout the day. Coffee helps. Now that I have Keely I find myself waking up to feed her. Ritual = Wake. Coffee. Feed. Stretch.

9am - 11am

Q: What happens next?

EJY: What I usually do is...   Around 9:30 am my physical energy starts to kick in. I like to go to the gym before noon and I'm usually headed that way at about 10am. Working out gives me a jump start on the day because not only am I able to stay fit but it also allows "me" time. I get a lot of writing done when I work out. My ideas flow the best when I'm at the gym.

11am - 1pm

Q: What happens next?

EJY: What I usually do is...   remember to eat. I tend to forget sometimes. I know...it's weird.

Lately, I've been doing a lot of updates during this time of day. I like to go outside and sit at the pool. yes, I have a pool and a spa now. It's why I moved out to Vegas! I like to read, watch the news and listen to NPR. Maybe it means I'm getting older. I always associate news radio with people over 40. Guess I'm there. Hee Hee!

Sunday

1pm - 3pm

Q: What happens next?

EJY: If I'm not preparing to audition for a show or a commercial I like to sit at my beautiful new imac computer. I've been writing some new projects and maintaining my existing ones, doing research, keeping up with the CD production and communicating with business partners.

Sunday

3pm - 5pm

Q: What happens next?

EJY: If I am able to take a break to watch Judge Judy or The People's Court I do. Most of the time i take a nap. It's good to have a few moments to rest before the evening begins in Vegas.

5pm - 7pm

Q: What happens next?

EJY: When I'm doing a show my body and brain starts to kick in around 4pm. I have to prepare myself for the performance mentally and physically and usually can't think about anything else. A lot of people think that getting onstage is a commitment that lasts as long as the performance itself. Not true. I have to prepare physically and vocally by warming up hours before. It's what works best for me. This is usually when I have the desire to eat as well.

I leave for work around 5:30pm. I really like to drive in the car and take the Strip to get there. It inspires me. It's kind of like walking through Times Square and seeing all of the theatregoers in line @ TKTS. It pumps me up. I also warm up in the car. It's like a private oasis. It's not the shower but it works. My favorite is when I get caught singing at the top of my lungs while sitting at a stop light. The looks I get are priceless!!!!

7pm - 9pm

Q: When do you head to the theatre?

EJY: I arrive around 6:15pm for a 7pm show. I don't like to get there too soon. If I'm at the theatre too early I get antsy and a bit crazy. I like to walk in, warm-up, and get out there. It's nice to see the energy and anticipation of the audience as I walk into the theatre. That's why I drive down the Las Vegas Strip. It builds me up and gives me permission to have fun because I can see that people want a good show. Especially in Vegas!

9pm - 11pm

Q: What happens next?

EJY: I do 2 shows a night in Vegas! 7pm and 9pm. It's amazing. Hard but amazing. It feels like an Act 1 and Act 2 honestly.

I'm living out my dreams onstage during this time.

Pure fun. It's great to entertain.

11pm - 1am

Q: What do you do after work?

EJY: I like to have a beer. I love a really cold beer after singing a lot. It feels good on my throat.

Sometimes I will stay at the theatre to hang out with friends. I like to meet people after the show too!!!

The drive home after work is harder than the drive into work. I don't mind as it only takes 20 minutes but it is a bit harder.

Once I get home I like to wind down by watching a little TV, taking a shower and/or getting into the hot tub/spa. It's very nice. Hey, it's there, I might as well use it!!!!!
